About This Spot

Waldo's BBQ feels like a welcoming corner of warmth and rich flavors tucked into the heart of Mesa’s neighborhood pulse. From the moment you step through its doors on East Main Street, the hum of conversation and the comforting aroma of slow-smoked meats invite you to settle in at a leisurely pace. It’s the kind of spot where the rhythm feels unhurried, giving space for genuine moments—whether you’re sharing a lively table with friends or savoring a quiet solo meal.

The atmosphere strikes a balance between casual and familiar, a place where smiles come easy and the care in the kitchen spills over into the room. The décor and setting keep things straightforward, allowing the food to be the star—a smoky, hearty celebration of classic barbecue traditions with a few well-loved twists.

Here, the experience is centered on generous, satisfying plates that feel like a conversation on a warm afternoon. There’s comfort in the blend of smoky brisket and tender pulled pork, alongside house-made sides that anchor the meal with homestyle goodness—imagine cornbread kissed with a hint of green chile, creamy mac and cheese, and the crisp snap of fresh coleslaw. Drinks like an Arnold Palmer or root beer offer a refreshing counterpoint, perfect for slowing down and soaking it all in.

Waldo's special charm lies in those human moments—the server who checks in with a smile, the waiting time that’s more a chance to anticipate than a rush, and the shared smiles over plates piled high. You’ll find plenty of familiar smokehouse favorites but never in a hurry, with every bite inviting you to pause and appreciate the craft behind it. It’s a BBQ spot where the atmosphere and promise of hearty comfort welcome you like an old friend.

We were gifted two gift certificates as a thank you gift, and we stopped by for an early Sunday lunch. Food was delicious, staff was all smiles and prices were reasonable for the large portions and generous piles of BBQ sauce we got with the ribs. Thank you guys so much, we don't get to go out for food often so it was a great choice. We'll be back!

The only way I was able to eat the peach cobbler pie with a scoop of ice cream on top of it was like this. I had to eat half of my baby back ribs then eat the pie and save the other half of my baby back ribs for lunch the next day. It was the best meal I've ever had, ever!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yummy every time. The fried pickles were delicious too! Didn't take pictures of all our food, was too excited to eat it. The meat sampler plate is always worth it!

This is what BBQ should be. Hot, so tasty you don't need the sauce, but it's great. We had a table of 4 with different meats and every single one was delicious. We've been eating here for years... never disappoints! Also, very, very reasonable, great portions.

I got the Pit Ham Platter, and this is the best BBQ I’ve had in Arizona. There’s normally a missing piece to a bbq plate… really tender meat, dry Mac n cheese. Amazing Mac n cheese, dry meat. None of that here - I loved every single thing on my plate! As a Texan, this felt like home and I cannot wait to come here with my friends !!!

What a nice surprise! Delicious BBQ. We got the Super Sampler which includes 3 meats, 2 sides and some St Louis Ribs for $29! Alot of food! We got the pulled pork, pulled beef and brisket with green chili Mac and cheese and fried okra. The beef was a little dry but the rest was really good.

Update: Second time eating at Waldo’s and man this place has a selection of home style meals you gotta try. We’re definitely going to be back to try the other items on the menu too. The nostalgia with this place, the flavor and smell of the food makes you feel like you’re back at a cookout at your parents’ house. This place is absolutely awesome!! Love this mom-and-pop old school diner feel. The food was awesome, the pace is awesome , and the staff are cool! Great lace to eat.
